The 52 week challenge for this week was to 'pretend' that this was the last image on a roll of film and I needed to 'nail' it. Well, I didn't. I fussed all week long about what to do, how to do it and then tried to pull it off.
Didn't and am completely okay with that. However, I learned a couple of few important lessons. 1) I do not want to put that type of pressure on my creativity. 2) I enjoy having breathing space of additional shots so to speak. 3) I don't want to have to explain to a client (not that I have any) that I failed. 4) I do my art for me!
This is white on white, clear glasses on clear glass bases with food color drops in the glasses. The color images made after this were substantially better and stronger but that is how I learn the best- do, fall flat and do again.
I'm not a fan of pressure either when it comes to creative endeavor. Sometimes I think restriction, like working with limited materials or equipment , does actually ratchet up the creative process but a one chance only or fear of failure atmosphere doesn't help at all for me.
Point 1, I like this pale abstract actually W@7!! So you haven't failed. Point 2, don't put yourself under pressure. It's your 365site!! You're doing it for 'you'. Sure, you want it to be the best you can but don't beat yourself up or don't post if it's not up to your chosen standard. I know a lot of people who worry, (including me) Shoot, process & post the best you can and don't worry.
@365projectorgsebgritt You are so very kind and I truly appreciate your words. Since I 'fussed' all week about this, I was primed to be very self-critical. I think that the best part is that I want to do this again.
So much pressure - for your challenge. I am intrigued as to what your shot was - I would say a success - as I have pondered this for quite some time and find it quite intriguing.
I find this a really intriguing image. Sometimes we have an idea in our head about what we are trying to achieve and if we don't get that see it as a failure, but actually it can take us somewhere unexpected, and if you let go of the intent, & see the picture fresh a really interesting image. Like you say, it is a good sign that you want to try again.
@ziggy77 Thank you, I did learn another thing, take and make notes. I didn't fail completely, I just need more practice. @30pics4jackiesdiamond I didn't hesitate to post this because I know that I need more experience but more patience too. @megpicatilly Thank you so much, this challenge stumped me but I did enjoy trying to figure it out. I like high key because it is often mysterious. @taffy Not sure if you've heard of 'AFGE'? It stands for another f'ing growth experience. That fit all too well. I am nothing if not tenacious so I will try again. @lizhammond Thank you very much, and so true, creativity can be very open ended. @kali66 Yup! Now to try and try again. @deborah63 Posting a better one tomorrow, the cushion of post processing is oh so nice. @amandalockie Thank you a great deal, it really looked so easy when the guy did it on youtube.
I love your decisions that have at last given you the peace of mind to "do your own thing". ;-)
But regardless, whether you create your pictures to please "your client" or not, they are fine, fine. I admire you for putting so much effort into them. -- Did you ever consider making books of them? (Look into www.blurb.com)
@octogenarian I realized that I do not function well in a competitive environment so clients and competitions are something I shy away from. I am lucky enough not to have to make a living from my art so I get to just create. My husband is very happy that I found this 365 community, I have learned so much and thinking about my art daily. I have looked into blurb once, might again.
@cjphoto As I always say, sanity is way way over-rated. Thank you so very much.
I have to admit I spent a lot of time thinking about what to do for this as well and decided 'fill the frame' was the best/easiest option... which kind of defeats the object as where is the challenge? I didn't enjoy it either, but it did force me to think before I clicked.. I take way too many pictures because it is so easy to delete them, but I end up wasting so much time in doing that.. Anyway, you learnt some valuable lessons in doing this challenge, and even though you didn't enjoy it, you learnt a lot from doing it, which is always a good thing in my book. :)
