Setting the Shot by joysabin

Setting the Shot

The beginnings of the night photography course, set the shot and focus in the light and then wait. The time taken was about 6:15pm - golden hour as the sun set at 6:35pm. I learn that I could change the time stamp on this camera, a 8 year old Sony Cyber Shot- thanks to the very helpful instructor.
This weeks challenge was to tell a story using the golden hour- 1 hour before and 1 hour after sunset.

Thank you very much to everyone who help get yesterday's shot on the popular page
Neat shot of the setup. How awesome to take some courses like this. Wishing you all the best.

@mbrutus Thank you so much, the course was low key but so very wonderful. Learning that I need a new lens and maybe upgrade in equipment was good too.

I would love to have a lesson on how to do this. Very well done getting to the PP - well deserved.

In general, they say that lenses are the best investment. They don't tend to get outdated as quickly as cameras. You'll own and use sthem longer. And they hold their value better (some rare ones actually go up in value.) But most expensive doesn't always mean the best. I read the reviews and decided to buy a 70-200 lens that was half the price of the same company's "latest and greatest.". Though it was an f/stop slower, it was just as sharp or sharper, a little shorter and much lighter, so it's way easier and less work to handhold. Couldn't be happier. All you have to do is up the ISO on a decent camera and it will make up for the difference in exposure value. Good luck. You'll have a great hobby going forward.

@catsmeowb Thank you. The course was a great deal of fun.

@megpicatilly I truly appreciate all the wonderful comments. The course was helpful but best of all was that there wasn't any being 'talked down to' even though I had a questionable lens.

@mbrutus I am thinking about a Sony A6000 which with adapters will work with my alpha lenses. I am saving my pennies and playing the lottery now and then :):)

I'm not intricately familiar with all Sony cameras but I hear good things about them. In many ways they are supposed to be more advanced than some of the other brands. So I hear what you are saying. As to the lottery, it sounds like a good strategy to me.;-)
