This is the architrave of the US Supreme Court building in Washington DC. (the back side). A few years ago (2012) I had time to walk around DC with my camera alone so I thought that I would visit places that I hadn't before. While I was framing up my shot, a gentleman passing by told me that on left corner of the frieze is a hare with a tortoise on the right. He told me that they were there to symbolize at times the justice moves swift as a hare and then can crawl slowly like a tortoise. I've not been able to find any direct information on the internet to confirm that but it does sound whimsical. ( https://www.supremecourt.gov/about/buildingfeatures.aspx ).
I also like how this capture is slightly off kilter as the court itself is as well.
By zooming in I certainly can see the tortoise and the hare on opposite sides. My own feeling is more along the lines of “justice delayed is justice denied”, and to me it seems in most cases justice is delayed, but them I am in a melancholy kind of mood this week.
Sounds plausible to me- I guess the way to find out would be to actually be there with a tour guide. Good shot- this angle also accentuates those long rectangular windows.
