Hazelnuts maybe by joysabin

Hazelnuts maybe

I had captured in B&W and RAW so I could post this month's NF-SOOC challenge as a monotone. I decided to post in color as I am really looking for help with identifying these seeds. I thought that maybe they might be chestnuts but the outer pods seem to have shorter spikes If anyone knows if these are hazelnuts or some other nut, that would be great.

This is really SOOC I just saved my raw file as a jpeg. I've set my camera to monotone which helps with my exposures and composition a great deal.
I think these are chinquapins. Let me know if this is it? http://owic.oregonstate.edu/giant-chinkapin-castanopsis-chrysophylla

@marlboromaam Thank you very much. I am going to ask a local nursery if these might be edible.

@linnypinny @eudora @ljmanning Thank you a great deal. I hadn't heard of chinquapins before either. I raked yesterday and a whole new batch was waiting for me on the ground this morning. Could be the squirrels or just that time of year.

@blueberry1222 It's been too many years and I just don't remember. My grandfather had a tree in his back pasture in the Smoky Mountains.

Cool looking

I'm not familiar with what Hazelnuts look like so I can't help with the ID. Did the nursery people know what they were?
