I am determined to get this. I chose a piece of wood and a moss covered stick. I tried my oldie moldy version of Photoshop (CS 5) for the merge but things didn't come together as I hoped.
I then tried Affinity Photo for the stacking. There is a menu item under file (new focus merge) which does most of the hard work. I was much more satisfied but needed to sharpen things a bit as I had moved my camera when I changed the focal area in the various shots.
I am going to try a landscape focus stack tomorrow and remember to use a 2 second delay to let the camera settle after I press the shutter.
This is for week 4 of the Capture One weekly challenge - learn a new technique. Now I am only missing week one - a selfie
Use a tripod, that will help. I use a remote trigger to avoid camera shake. If possible, you could also use live-view, since that will lift the mirror and you shouldn't have the camera shake of the mirror.
In Photoshop, you first should align the images and then merge. I can do that in Photoshop CC. Don't know whether that is possible in CS5.
That's so good - and your narrative is very enticing. This looks like something to have a go at with my really, really old editing program. What you have explained gives me an idea of how to go about it. Thanks for sharing. :)
You set yourself a hard challenge with the stark difference in the light.
