OSU being an agricultural college there are various livestock programs. This beauty is an Alpaca. There is a herd of about 20 located near the western end of campus. I was walking my dog near them today and for some reason a good number of them ambled over close to the fence. We kept our distance since I didn't want them to get spooked by Riley. I was using a 300mm zoom.
Great capture! Tomorrow we head out for a road trip down the Oregon Coast, inland to Eugene and back to Seattle. All the years we lived in Eugene and Florence I always thought of Eugene as being “50 square miles surrounded by reality.”
Great B&W. We visited an alpaca farm and the owners said it wasn't a problem to get close with our dog. But me and the dog were recipients of a great amount of alpaca spit!
Thank you all so very much. I fill have to go back without my pup and get some closer shots, of course hoping that the Alpacas are curious once again.
Thank you so very much. I knew that Llamas tended to spit but now I guess I will be wary of Alpacas as well.
