Woody nightshade (Solanum dulcamara) by julienne1

Woody nightshade (Solanum dulcamara)

Sometimes known as "Bittersweet Nightshade" because the root and stem taste extremely bitter if eaten but supposedly gradually start to taste sweeter with chewing. It's a poisonous narcotic, but not so much as Deadly nightshade.
Stunning.

I've always thought this a pretty flower but never looked too closely because of the poison. So seeing the little yellow/green spots on the purple petals was a revelation. Thank you.

@woofandweft1 they are interesting little flowers. They are poisonous but there are only a handful of serious cases of human poisoning and you would have to eat a whole lot to do yourself any damage.
