Silver Y moth by julienne1

Silver Y moth

This little moth's name comes from the white inverted "y" marking half way along its wing. It's a migrant moth which does sometimes breed here but the early stages won't survive the UK weather so the adults we see will be migrants from warmer Europe.
I have noticed these, all the way up in Co. Durham, that is a long migration... probably the equivalent of men going to the moon!

Wonderful detail - they must be tricky to spot.

@wylieclicks it does seem strange that they manage to fly all that way - there doesn't seem to be much advantage to them really!
