Deserted ...

As I was coming home this afternoon I did a drive around the old and deserted Mental Institution that closed down to patients several years ago.. It is a beautiful building and very sad that it is falling into disrepair..

Yes it's sad to see this once beautifully kept lot of grounds and buildings in such a sad state - the handless clock says it all.

I agree with you - the age of these buildings still holds a different architecture but the history and actuality that went on here is frightening!

@julzmaioro I know. It's quite an eerie place. I went to Spookers last year and the buildings around it could be used for so much.

P.S. I wouldn't go back to Spookers again - too scary for me and we only went to a children's night, not an adult one :-)

@nickspicsnz Yeah I went once for a 'Hens night' hated it.. enough scary stuff out there with out having to go a look for it.. I think it is disrespectful to what this building was used for..

@happypat Lots of 'Institutions' of this era had the same 'look' .. I guess it was the design of the time..

I was closed in 1999..Parts are being used as accommodation, Tourist attraction of Spookers,, but majority is left empty..

Nicely captured...the lighting is lovely. Sad to see it sitting empty. We have a Pub business that buys up buildings like this and turns them into great pubs, restaurants, theaters and lodging even. Depending on the size and architecture.

Another one for the history books. I shudder a bit when I see this grim facade - back in the 1960's I had a holiday job in one of these institutions - I think I was traumatised by my work experience ... now really, that shouldn't have happened.
