King Tide.... And Storm = Flooding...

We have had some pretty rough weather over the last couple of day's and as we have been having King Tides it has resulted in some flooding ... There is a bit of controversy in our small town as over the last few months the Wharf that is in town has been going through a 'makeover' the Engineers have lowered the level of the retaining wall and as you can see it is well under water the new plants that have been planted to make it beautiful are well and truely under water.. In this shot you can see the Historic Village that is part of the local Museum and the 'Band Stand' .. We watch with interest to see what develops with the 'Wharf'...
Oh dear - what a shame! We have also had sooooooo much rain here in the UK.

A beautiful capture Julia. Such a pity about the Wharf. Somebody did not do their homework apparently! We certainly can use some of that water ;-)

@ludwigsdiana @lyndamcg We have been having a very dry spell so this would all help and amazing overnight it seems to have greened up .. so lets hope it keeps on coming ..

I know you needed some rain, but this is a bit extreme.

Wow.. that's intense. We had king tides here this week too but there's been no windy luckily!

Wow. That's pretty incredible. Why did the engineers do that and who thought it a good idea? It looks to be a very charming town - I hope it works out soon!

@elatedpixie Who knows ... can't recall the water ever going over the reataining wall on the far side ... so do not understand why it would of been lowered .. it is a pretty little village ..

Ooh dear , what a shame for this to happen ! The elements sometimes beat the wisdom (or lack of ) men !!

Oh dear 😱

What a pity

Oh, dear, looks like the engineers will have to rethink. Maybe this is nature's warning!

looks like we got off lightly in TK. The benefits of living on a hill

A great shot to show how big tides, rain and high winds will just take over. The new wharf seems a bit of a disaster!

Quite a disaster - did these engineers have their heads in the sand - or underwater as the case may be! Very pretty little group of buildings!

In Portland they had the third highest tide recorded in the middle of a blizzard.

Wow! great capture :)

I would be very nervous if I lived in that house.

Lots of water - a great shot that shows the expanse of it! The river must be quite narrow normally.
January 5th, 2018
It's a beautiful setting - hope the water doesn't rise any more than this amount.
January 5th, 2018
@deborah63 not a house but a craft shop just behind the band stand.. the others are part of a collection of old buildings for the Museum.. this was at the peak of the tide so probably didn't get any higher..

Great capture, composition

Back to the drawing board then! Those that didn't agree with the plans will be feeling pretty smug! Would like to be a fly on the wall at the next meeting! So much rain but my word didn't you need it! Brian said it was like listening to dollars banging on the roof!
January 5th, 2018
@happypat As long as they keep on banging at regular intervals .. and with out the wind..
January 5th, 2018
Oh dear...that's a lot of water!
January 5th, 2018
Oh wow, what a huge tide. Interesting about the wall controversy. Sounds typical to me.
