So when my friend and I decided to participate in 365, I told her I was not taking any people photos. I'm still such a beginner photographer that I'm super slow in making decisions and adjustments to my camera settings and it annoys people and makes them feel stalked when I follow them around with my camera, taking forever to take even one shot. End of week one, ONS 3 is announced, and we decided to jump in and join the fun and challenge. Day 2 of ONS3 -- candid shots??? Oh, my. I think that means I have to break my own rule already on Day 8 of 365. But I'm very committed to taking on challenges to learn, and being part of this community. I have no pets or small children around who might be viable candidates for candid shots. Spontaneously, I pulled out my camera at my friend's home, and snapped two candid photos. Fortunately, my good friend approved this photo -- one of only two I took today -- and said I could post it.
Here, she's focusing on getting her embroidery machine threaded so we can sew up some wallets. I like that her face and her hand are in focus, showing her look of concentration and what she's concentrating on, and that the bokeh in her forearm and embroidery machine don't distract the viewer from seeing the important part of the candid photo. Because I had planned to take photos of birds today, I only had my 70-200mm lens with me so it was a challenge getting far enough back in a relatively small space to get this photo. Ultimately, I like that this angle worked in my favor in getting a "tight" shot making it feel more intimate than I might have captured with a wider angle lens.
Awesome job on the candid challenge! I was wishing for a kid today too. I think the angle is perfect and her activity is so interesting. An embroidery machine? Too cool. Welcome to 365. It is a most wonderful ride, and if you stick with it, I promise you will actually learn so, so much. You will also make some wonderful friends.
This is great! Congrats for breaking your rules so early in the game! It took me a few months! Keep your mind open and you'll be in for a wild ride! ;)
