The sunset the previous evening had been so beautiful that we decided to get up early (for me, any time before 8am is early), check out of the hotel and make a photography stop here before heading out for the caves. We were rewarded with this beautiful sunrise, and an island (or what do you call this tiny bit of land in the middle of the lake?), filled with squawking seagulls. I found it to be curious to find seagulls living on sulfur water.
Hello and welcome to the wonderful world of 365! I visited NZ in March this year. What an amazing country. I look forward to following your adventures. Take a look at my photos from April and early May when I showed some of my New Zealand photos. By the way, I agree with you, the sulphur smell kept me awake too!
@anazad511@steampowered@daisyjuds@taffy@dolphin@lynnb@jenrobcarr -- thank you for the delightful comments and favs! It's a nice welcome back to a delinquent poster . . . @julieco -- I enjoyed going through your album from your NZ trip . . and more! @bardejov -- I was only in NZ for about 10 days. I'm back home in Chicago now.
Hi , Awesome shot of Rotarua. Am I correct in thinking you are based in Germany? I am in Berlin with family for 5 days from 7th Aug. Any ideas where not to miss? Pam
@stevepam -- I was in Berlin from February to early June, but now am back in Chicago where I live most of the time. I had planned to be back in Berlin for 10 days in August but just canceled that trip so I will miss you. @Synke lives there and organizes photo walks, and Molly @dolphin has some great photos in her album from around mid April. Where not to miss? Oh, that's so hard . . . I know you love animals and nature but I was there during a record long winter and I didn't see much nature other than snow. Hmmm . . . let me think about this a bit. What else intrigues you?
@pflaume@fishy@julieco@stevepam -- thank you for your supportive comments and favs! I sincerely appreciate it. My staying in slow internet hotels has put me far behind in posting, viewing and commenting so I'm hoping to catch up a bit . . .
@stevepam I've visited Berlin lots of times and always go to Neue Wache ( http://365project.org/dolphin/365/2013-04-21). Other key sites are the Memorial for the Murdered Jews of Europe, the Berlin Wall memorial at Bernauer Strasse and probably Potsdamer Platz - I have shots of all these on 16th, 17th and 19th March. Enjoy your trip - it's a fantastic city.
@bernadette@shepherdman -- thank you! @carolinedreams -- It was a small "patch" of land in the water, so I'm not sure it's named but in any case, the birds certainly claimed it as home. You must know this area well?
@archaeofrog -- thanks! I couldn't help but get the bird silhouettes as they were EVERYWHERE. I can still recall their squawks.
@stevepam -- I've had a quick look through my own album as I think of places to recommend for you, and first of all, I wholeheartedly agree with all of @dolphin's recommendations.
Here are a few I've selected from my own album:
I recommend getting the Welcome Berlin Card-- you can get them at the airport and use it to take the bus/train to the city and then have public transportation for however many days you purchase:
And from Unter den Linden you can then take Bus 100 on the upper deck to get a sight-seeing tour of the city, including Siegessäule: http://365project.org/jyokota/365/2013-05-27
The bus route ends at Zoologischer Garten, and from there it's a quick walk to: Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church on Ku'Damm at night, from the outside or from the inside during midday: http://365project.org/jyokota/365/2013-02-19
