Eastern Redbud by khawbecker

Eastern Redbud

The redbud trees are now in bloom. I found a tree today where the blossoms were bursting in bunches from the bark of the tree, as pictured here. I don't recall seeing this before.

Here is a shot of the tree branches from a more distant vantage point: http://365project.org/khawbecker/past-and-presen/2014-04-16
That's a good picture of the buds of the Redbud tree. They really stand out.

I discovered these last year and think they are the most interesting trees around. You've captured their flowers so well.

@moxy Thanks, Shelley. Not all Red Bud trees grow these little flower bunches on the main trunk. I loved the way these looked.

@eyesmile Thanks, Gena. It is actually unusual. Red buds don't normally sprout bunches of flowers like this on the bark of the main branches.

@taffy Thanks, Taffy. Are the Red Buds in bloom in Chicago yet? If not, I bet they're getting close.

@jyokota Thank you, Junko. Normally, Red Bud trees do not grow bunches of blossoms on the main branches like this. Close up, they seem like miniature orchids to me.
