Sea Urchin by kwind

Sea Urchin

Found this creature on the beach yesterday. First time I've seen one so bright out close to shore.

Yesterday's find is still on the beach and did not wash away at high tide. Various ideas about what it is but a ocean break water seems the most logical at this point.

Here's another shot: http://365project.org/kwind/365/2014-03-24
Wow, I've only seen those in aquariums! Very cool! Quite pretty!

That's wonderful!! I don't think I've ever seen a live one before. I was really surpised at the difference in marine life from one side of the island to the other, or even just beach to beach. It always fascinated me, this whole new living and breathing world in the ocean :)

so fascinating, love the texture

Beautiful capture. Isn't it a sea urchin rather than an anemone?
March 24th, 2014
Definitely a living sea urchin. Often we used to find the shells, empty, with the spines fallen off. You can actually eat the inside, if you feel so inclined - very salty and fishy. You do not want to stand on it, for sure! Great capture.

@shepherdmanswife @missmercy @jamibann Yes, sea urchin. I'm not sure what I was thinking. We have sea anemones here too. I'll change the title.
