A Very Protected Stone

This is the Bisley Cross-Shaft Stone, the bottom part of a Saxon cross dating from c.700 AD. Originally it was a complete cross with carved holy figures. It was brought to this spot in 1820 and marked the village boundary of Bisley. Now restored and protected by the Gloucestershire County Council, pity the weeds weren't removed.

As with most of my photo's, best view with the magnify button above the pic.
Love the line , texture and feel of the countryside. Fav.
