A look around the Village - No. 3

After the shock of yesterday's early morning spider, I thought I would have a little stroll around my own village, just to blow the cobwebs off, See the link, spider & cobwebs.

This old cottage is just 50yds from my home and was built about 1800. Made of the local Cotswold Stone the roof has obviously been replaced by red tiles. I do know the porch was added in the last 30 years as I saw it being built.

This is Ivy Cottage and I would imagine was covered in Ivy at one time. Please take note of the 3 black discs on the wall. These hold metal rods with corresponding discs at the back and have been added to stop the walls collapsing outward. They are hidden in the ceilings and floors and tightened by large nuts on top of the discs.

Such a shame the roof is not in keeping with the rest of the building - it still makes a lovely shot though

@virtualbrownie @pittcj17 Thank you both for looking. Cindy the discs are added where the outer walls are collapsing.

Love the stonework but have to agree that the roof does not do it justice. Fav

I love the symmetry of this house. Wonderful old lady - pity about the roof....but what a lovely capture nonetheless!

@thresheg @daisyjuds @killeen @lynnilou Thank you all, I have just noticed something interesting. If you look closely at the brickwork by the bottom right window I think there was another door - this was once two cottages. Also the top right window has been moved.

This is a proper house, possibly with another attached hence the ex door and ex window; loving this walk around your local area.

Love these old buildings. I'm surprised by all the alterations including the recent porch and new windows. My Aunt's home was a former tin miners cottage with no particular historic significance and they wouldn't allow the windows to be changed or a rain awning over the door.

Good reflection in downstairs window!

Love the mix of old and new (the windows and door look much newer and fresher than my house, which was built in 1985!) Lovely historic capture!

@claireuk @kathiecb @windridge @linnypinny @khawbecker Thank you all for commenting, this is the type of house we all drew when we where young, 4 windows and a door in the middle.

Looks like a very sturdy and rugged house, one that was built for the ages. Fascinating history, Heather.
