A look around the Village. No. 4

Just 800 yds. down the hill and past yesterday daffodils and we come into the village of King's Stanley. There are many historic buildings in the village including at one time, 9 different pubs or ale houses.

This building on the village green was The Red Lion Pub and Brewery and was first recorded in 1830. Unfortunately it pulled it's last pint of beer in 1972 after the landlord Frederick Spiers retired, he had been there since 1939, a stalwart of the village. It had been derelict for a few years but is now a private house and two flats.

Much better viewed with the magnify button above the picture.
Beautiful place and stunningly framed.

Interesting story, Heather. You can see the remnants of the working brewery. It must have been neat as a pub.

@killeen Thank you David, many old houses in my area are not allowed to be pulled down as long as they are in a condition to be preserved.

I like the 'coaching' arch; it looks rather large to be just one house, two flats, must be nice proportions inside
March 26th, 2014
@claireuk Thanks for commenting Claire. There is a metal gate in the arc with Red Lion House on it.

Lovely picture. I am the great granddaughter of Frederick Spiers. My mother often visited her grandparents at the pub from our home in Canada & my sister & I visited in 2008. Thank you for remembering my great grandfather & the Red lion.

@kcanada Thank you Karly, so you were here in 2008, you could have popped in for a cup of tea as I live quite near the Red Lion. Hope you see many more views I have taken here.
