I've been trying to capture this cottage for months but every time I've passed, there has been cars parked on the roadside in front. This is without doubt my favourite home in the village and I will try and explain why.
It's called "Wayside" and I had to climb up a farm track to look down on this Cotswold Cottage. It must be dated from around 1780, that's the main part of the building. If you look closely it was another of those cottages you would again draw as a child, 2 windows at the top, 2 windows at the bottom and a door in the middle. The front door has been filled in and another window added, whilst a lovely double extension has been built in the last twenty years to the left.
So the reason I love this is not just because it looks beautiful, but it is on a slight hill and if you look closely behind it has a fantastic view across the Severn Valley. Imagine sitting in the conservatory built at the back and having that view day and night.
Oh and I haven't checked last nights lottery tickets yet, but I can dream can't I.
Interesting house, but there are a few architectural details that take some of the charm away from the house. I'll give concessions to the additions added, but the window in the lower right just doesn't fit the house.
You've captured it so well. You can see the history of the place. I especially love the jagged top to the wall in front. I can well imagine that the view from the back windows must be gorgeous.
@joeyc@khawbecker@gilbertwood@linnypinny@ianrm@kathiecb@fjmom Like me many of you seem to like this cottage so thank you for your visit and FAV's. If I ever move in, you can all come and visit me and look have a look at the view, but not all at once please.
Very nice, Heather. The crisp, almost exaggerated detail of the stonework, reminds me of those miniature ceramics that are popular with collectors. Fav.
