Well, I decided to buy something a bit smaller than my ceramic items, I'm running out of space. So, I looked at old silver coins.
I'm at the learning stage but I do know that pre-1920 British coins were made of sterling, .925 silver. Coins from 1920 to 1945 are 50% silver and after that year they are all silver plated.
I fell in love with this lovely George III, 1818 Crown. Now people around my age will remember the old Half-Crown but these Crowns were not produced much after 1936.
Wow you might think, a lovely silver coin, WRONG, I made a mistake. The seller advertised it as a "King George III Crown coin. Contemporary gap filler for your coin album."
Little did I know of the meaning of Contemporary at the time, I now know it's a fake probably produce in China and is just normal metal and silver plated made recently
It's look nice but rubbish, I've learnt my first lesson of coins. I'm still smiling as I paid less than a cup of coffee for it.
