Let's get back to combining my picture with a song from the past, anything to put a tune in the head for the rest of the day.
I've noticed that, certainly in the UK, everything is choking in poison ivy, trees, telegraph poles and even buildings. If it's not control it becomes a disaster and an eyesore.
A quiet spot on my local canal is an example of what I mean. Here it has taken over the trees, bridges and the ground, choking everything it comes in touch with. If you look at the right hand side foreground the tree trunk is covered and the tree will slowly die.
Good grief, I was getting all serious with dome and gloom about our countryside, so my song has to cheer you up, who can remember "Poison Ivy" by the Lambretta's from 1994. Link:
Good shot. I agree with you entirely about the amount of Ivy there seems to be. I was out in my garden earlier this week tearing some off my ornamental Cherry tree..... it has really scared the trees trunk. It smothers any thing in its path !!
Lovely picture and you are so right about the menace of ivy when left to grow unchecked. Branches of trees become top heavy and cause trees to topple over in high winds. It messes up brickwork too. However I do like it in the garden and use it in flower arranging. But in moderation. now I can't get that song out of my head!
Well spotted and captured! And, wow, what a lively and fun band! Really needed that uplifting video today, as all I'm hearing about is how horrible the weather is going to be in a few hours!
It's a pity it is such a parasitic plant, because it is actually quite pretty. Purple loosestrife is the parasitic plant here. Pretty, but will kill everything else off. Thanks for the ear worm - now firmly entrenched in my head. ;-)
You do have a lot of ivy. Thank goodness it's not poisonous. We have poison ivy but it's a short plant that spreads along the ground. We discovered it quite by accident a couple of years ago. Now we respect it. Haha
