You often hear me mention that I was out geocaching when I took this and that photograph, so I thought you might be interested in a crafty one that I found the other day. I won't mention the name or where it is as that might spoil it for others.
You set your hand-held GPS from the computer and off you go to park nearest the place. The walk and hunt starts as you follow the directions of the GPS until you reach the the area the geocache is hidden.
With this one there was a short walk through the wood and you were brought to a gateway. With all my experience it's best to just stop and look to see if there is anything unusual, or just looks odd. In the left had picture you can see a small piece of wood that's not quite weathered yet.
You get a closer view in the middle and although I wasn't sure about it I found, on examination, that it slid upwards to reveal a tube fixed to the bottom of the wood. Inside the tube is the logbook which I signed. The cache is found and you can go home and log that you have found it. Of course you don't have to do them singly.
Good investigative skills! I don't think I would have spotted it. (I have trouble keeping up with my stapler at work, which I usually find right in front of me!) Nicely captured with the 3 photos.
@kelly2 You can put some out yourself Irene, if your a geocacher. I have 5 out and found 692 so far. I think people should have experience before putting any out and you must abide by the rules.
Such a smart hiding place, thanks for sharing. since I started geocaching I noticed lots of out of place things that in normal day life, with no cache there ;) It makes you see things ;)
Interesting shots and info, Heather. My son found a particular geocache some time ago, plus another unexpected find..... a wasps nest. Unfortunately both he and his dog were both stung.
@snowy Diana, there are just over 2,600,000 around the the world which means that my 693 finds has only scratched the surface. I bet there are several around your home.
Isn't it fun, all the strange looks you can get while lifting this and pushing that, all the while walking in circles looking at you hand? The fun of using a multi-billion dollar [pound] system to find tupperware buried in the woods.
Heather, I can easily get lost there too!!!
