Thank you for again getting my Place of Remembrance picture onto the pp yesterday, it's always nice to see your work appreciated.
Up on the hills overlooking the Severn Valley and the river I suddenly realised that my very last school was also in the picture. If you look closely to the bottom left you can see the school sports field, the play ground with netball courts, and the school buildings behind.
This is the town of Stonehouse in Gloucestershire and I left this school in 1962 to go on to a collage. Although I had no problems with school, it was not the most enjoyable time in my life and really I should appreciate the good start it gave me in life.
The cross-country run used to leave that sports field, climb this hill and return via the road winding down on the right of the picture (hated it, as I wasn't built for cross-country running).
The town has grown since I lived there with many factories now on the edge. In the center you can see the towers of the Milk Marketing Board were milk was stored before being turned into yogurts, cheese and other products.
How I enjoy (and envy) your beautiful countryside. My childhood schools have been torn down or rebuilt and certainly do not have such gorgeous landscapes. A well captured fav for me!
I specially like your frame. Strangely enough I was thinking recently that most of my best learning has been since I left school and at my own instigation and I wonder if that is so for most people.
Great landscape Heather and like you and Hazel I learnt more after I left school than I ever did while I was there. Teachers told me that I would make nothing of my life but I haven't done too badly and I do have a
Degree so I'm not so much of a dunce after all LOL
Nice landscape and bit of early life history, Heather. I too did much more after leaving school at 5th form level. I got Local Govt. qualifications and did a part-time degree, own resources, travelling to London twice a week after work (live in West Sussex). @rosiekind
you can see for miles around
