I've been on the live auctions in the last couple of days and had to pop round to my local auction house to pick up an item that I won. Whilst I was there I had a look round and spotted this vintage motorcycle and sidecar (£5000 to £7000) and it brought back many memories from the past.
It was actually manufactured the same year as I was born, so it must be very old. In the 50's there were many of these on the road with all the family going on holiday or an outing. Mum and Dad on the motorcycle and the children in the sidecar.
I have a memory somewhere in my past of having a ride in a sidecar, but can't remember when. What about yourselves have you ever seen or experienced one. Thanks for all your comments and FAV's, I'm pleased to say that Lady Magpies gadget feeder is now very popular with the little birds. View with the dark surround.
Never have ridden in a sidecar, too many films with "the" pin coming out and the side car going on its own. logic did not set in about how it was riding on one wheel, why only one pin (bolt, whatever) holding the sidecar on... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YC-MR84S1H8
Well seen and captured. I've never had a ride in one (once I rode on the back of a big proper motor bike) but they always looked a bit hazardous to me.
Great find and capture. We had a motorbike and sidecar when I was a kid. Had some great trips with it, even going on holiday, from Newcastle to relatives here in Northampton.
Ah you are one of those anonymous bidders on the phone or Internet are you......I Lways think the item being bid for must be very desirable when there's a telephone bidder!
@happypat I visit on viewing day and check out all the items I've listed on the internet, crossing of any damaged or cracked it's. I know what I'm collecting then bid on the internet, picking up the items I won either later or the next day. I was picking up a Doulton Lambeth large ewer today.
@ladymagpie I love auctions but haven't been for ages, I feel I don't need to be tempted to buy more stuff for my over full house but I like watching them on TV sometimes. Last thing I bought was a round side tipping table for B&B.
What a great find. One of our neighbours had a bike and sidecar just like this and I was always envious of his kids when they went off for the day to the seaside in the sidecar. We just had a regular Hillman Minx car, nothing as exciting as this.
My grandad couldn't drive a car so he had a motorbike (like the police ones on Heartbeat with the plastic screen at the front) and sidecar but if I remember rightly his didn't have a roof. I can't ever remember going in it though but I know my nan used to.
My Nan and Grandad's friend and his wife had one of these - I remember standing outside the house waving them off on a day trip to Bridlington. About an hour later they were back -they only got as far as Tadcaster when the motobike broke down and had to be towed home. But they were haopy as they had waited in the Boot and Shoe (a famous pub in that area)!
