I've been out and about today looking at our religious houses in some local villages today and came across this one in the trees. This is St. Andrew's Church in Frocester.
It is well hidden behind the large 4 star hotel calls The Frocester George, a well known eating house as well. The nave roof on the left dates from 1637 with the rest dating from the late 17th century. It was extensively rebuilt in 1896-97.
There is a fantastic Jacobean hexagonal pulpit with the base dating from 1680 and a re-laid memorial stone inscribed Johannis Huntley died 1622. It building stands in a beautiful position with well maintained lawns, but unusually no churchyard.
There's lots more history coming from me, so keep smiling.
I am amazed to hear of a 4* hotel in a village.
