Unfortunately I haven't been out today after last night's storms and several showers today. So instead I thought I would take a picture of something that I have acquired recently, and from an Auction house in Cornwall. Luckily my favourite Niece lives near this auction house and she kindly picked it up and then posted it to me. Auction houses can be so expensive on postage and packing which can make the item double in price. I've always called her my favourite Niece, mainly because she's my only Niece and I need to keep in her good book, that’s a minor detail.
So this is a Christening Set, silver with bone handles, the set does include the napkin ring and the box has an extra dome in the lid to contain the ring. The knife and fork dates for 1865 and was made in Sheffield, whilst the lovely napkin ring is older and dates for 1855 and made in London.
I wonder what Christening presents are given today and do you still have yours if you were given one. AS for having a posh knife and fork set, I'll just stick to my old fork and fingers to eat but don't tell anyone.
Whoa! Very impressive set.
You know, I call my son 'my favourite son' too. And I only have one child :D :D :D
As they say: 'finding friends with the same mental disorder is priceless'
That’s a very beautiful Christening set Heather! The detail on the knife especially is very unusual…..I bet you were pleased to win that! Box in great order too!
