Well I was out before 9am this morning when I'm usually just getting up; okay I'm a lazy old pensioner. I had to go down to the next village to post an urgent parcel, even before my morning cuppa of tea and breakfast. I did need to check that I still didn't have my pyjamas on before getting out of my car and in fact I was dressed properly plus facemask.
On the way back I stopped at the bottom of the hill that climbs up into my village as I have been intending to capture this very interesting structure. There is a lovely big house with its garden wall running along the roadside, and this is at the bottom of their garden.
It's what was called a gazebo of its period and often found in mansions with large gardens. The description of a gazebo is that they are freestanding or attached to a garden wall, roofed, and open on all sides. They provide shade, shelter from rain and a place to rest, while acting as an ornamental feature. Some gazebos in public parks are large enough to serve as a bandstand.
I also love the arched garden gate in the wall surrounded by pretty stonework. I have the impression of the man of the house telling his wife that he is going out to do some gardening, only to retreat to the gazebo to put his feet up, especially in the upper room.
For me this gazebo is almost as big as my bungalows so don’t think I will be having one built. Saying that one of my Son's has a modern wooden gazebo in the corner of his garden, how posh is that.
This is terrific. I love the structure and especially the gate. I might give this a try in drawing, if you don't mind. May I draw from it?
Looking at that gate, if it had one more handle on the left, it would make a cute face gate... 😃
This is a really cute building. Along with Moni and others I am part of the Artsygang, do you mind if all or some us attempt to draw or paint this?
Moni has already done a fabulous watercolour and not sure that I can do it justice as a little abstract in my style.
