Remnence of World War Two

It's quite surprising what you find when you are out and about in the countryside when you are geocaching. I was just south of Tetbury in Gloucestershire and after walking across a field I came across this Pill Box, built during World War Two.

It's certainly not what my pill box look like at home. These are often built along rivers or canals in case the Germans invaded and followed this along valleys. Yet this was in the middle of nowhere and in fact on top of flat hill top.

After finding the container I walked on to my next one across another field, still unsure why this pill box was here. I returned to my car and made my journey back home to do some research.

It was when I was looking at some old maps I found that there had been a disused airfield nearby and it had a circle of these around it for protection. So there was the answer, this pill box was there to protect all the aircrews and staff during the war. Whereas my pill box protects me from all the health problems I've had over the years.

Keep smiling.
What a great find , look at those beady eyes ( slits in the wall ) there to look-out for the unwanted invasion !

Nice narrative to go with a nice shot, as usual.
I find it fascinating how you investigate all these places! I admire your perseverance.

Good things pill boxes then Heather! Good to know these things! There seem to be loads of geocache boxes hidden….I’m thinking how many folk must have planted those over the years!

@happypat There are more than 3,000,000 around the world and I've found 921 myself within a 25 mile radius of my home, I had also put 5 out. As I've said before, there are many close to your home.
