My second “Then and Now” mix takes us to a small village just down the hill from my home. This is the village of Leonard Stanley and the village green just outside the church, which is out of view on the left.
In the old picture you can just make out some people stood beside the green, there is nothing on the green. Now look above the last car in the row on the right, you will see the top of the war memorial.
Most towns and village have their own war memorial mostly built in around 1919 and 1920, where today many people celebrate their villagers that lost their lives in both world wars and any subsequent wars since.
There have been a few changes to the cottages, especially added windows and porches. What does strike me is how cars parked on the roadside always spoils the views you have.
Super match in your pov ! , nature has made little differences in the growth of trees and foliage , The cottages remain so much the same , the extra roof window in the near house , the modern day TV areal , and The war memorial ( I would have missed this one if I hadn't read your intro !! ) And of course the most blatant difference are all those cars lining the street !! This series Heather provides me with a daily "Spot the difference "!!!!!
I do so enjoy these before and after pictures. Such a quaint village, and you’re right Heather, cars parked along the street have ruined many a photo in the historic district of my city. Fav!
That middle cottage has dormer windows but there is remarkably little change to this photo ever the years thankfully. A pretty village with only a few modern spoilers…. Cars are always in the way!
I agree with you about the cars. They always spoil the views. These houses lined up remind me of the army lined up. On the old card "they stand at rest", and on your "attention".
It still has that quaint village feel apart from the cars.
