We are back to one more "Then and Now" series and into a small village not far from my home. This is Eastington and at first glance you might think that there haven’t been many changes. The buildings are very similar but the road formation has changed.
In the old picture the road sign was further over to the right, and was also a fountain. Today it's a roundabout for a busy road junction. The land on the left has been dug away and the fields are now a large housing estate.
The Kings Head pub directly in front is still a pub, although you will see a small extension on the right next to that lovely cottage. Although you can't see it on the new picture there is a village store on the right, hence all the parked cars.
When I was very young I used to cycle past here often to visit my best friend Peter in the next village of Claypits. I lost contact as we went to different seniors schools but incredibly his Father was my class tutor on my first day at the senior school, good old Mr. Wheeler.
I enjoyed this comparison very much. Always interesting to see what's been left behind (Here in the US they just tear it all down - no respect for history!) A fav for me.
A charming old photo Heather. The pub seems to have had a unsympathetic extension at some point but I’m sure the whole area looks very different especially when you take in the housing estate on the left which we can’t see. I like your comparison shots.
