Just olives

A friend called to say she would be harvesting her olives on Saturday and taking them to the mill on Monday. They have about 15 trees but still need to rope in others to meet the minimum 150 liters required by the mill. I only have one tree in my garden, but this year it has surpassed itself. Normally producing enough olives to fill a 7 liter bucket, I have already got 10 liters and guess there are another 5 on the tree. So double the usual harvest, even at the end of our second year of draught. I am usually given two liters of oil, probably more than my contribution is worth. The Internet site of my local supermarket offers the cheapest extra vigin at 11€/L, and last week in Spain I paid 9€ for a one liter bottle. Which means I'm rewarded 22€ for about 6 hours of tedious work. Not really worth it, but I have to pick them - if I leave them they fall to the ground and attract rats to the garden.

The mill where the olives will be processed is called Le Moulin de l'Arbre Blanc. You can see a photo of the milling equipment here if you're interested.

Great read… wonderful to have your own EVO oil.
It’s a wonderful tradition… I have a shot of it in the morning,

This is a fascinating dialogue, but I'm shocked at the cost of the oil. Your two litres of oil from the manufacturer sounds well worth it. We're just trying to remember how much it costs here in the uk. We usually shop in Lidl, where it's much cheaper.
