The Arctic Visitor by lesip

The Arctic Visitor

This was my third visit to Assateague to try and spot the famous visiting Snowy Owls. After walking the beach for an hour and a half I decided I better head back. I came off the beach and walked along the campsites ( they are closed for the winter). I was still on the lookout but thought it was going to be another visit with no snowy and all of the sudden I SEE HIM or at least I think I do. Grabbing my camera and zooming the lens to 500mm ( the reach is a little better since it's a crop sensor camera) YES IT'S HIM !!!! I snap one shot and off he goes. I believe he was hunting and had found something. I never found him and this photo is a little craptastic but I just had to share. He was sitting on top of one of the camp bathhouses. It was a bucket list kind of day :-)
Persistence pays off. Good for you.

coolio! there's a church near one of our subway stations. and one day i saw that there were 2 owls on the roof which were rather still. i couldn't recall if they were there before as a decoration and i probably just never paid attention. i took a few shots but they were crappy so i couldn't ascertain. last week i went by there and there were no owls on the roof. i asked one of the ladies who conducts meetings at the church and she said that a pair visit the church once a year. so there, they were real owls i just screwed up with photographing them.
