Years ago when my daughter was small I read a book called “The Sweet Smells of Christmas” to her. It was scratch-n-sniff book about a bear family’s holiday. At the end the little bear found “a big juicy orange” in his stocking. My daughter latched onto the idea and kept wishing for a “big juicy orange” in her stocking as well. Ever since it has been a tradition that Santa always leaves one for each child. My daughter is 19 now, but she would still be extremely disappointed if Santa forgot.
And what do an elephant and a monkey have to do with this story? Absolutely nothing but these tiny rubber critters keep mysteriously popping up around my house, and I’ve been dying to work them into a photo. I still can’t figure out what to do with the tiny rubber chicken.
Nice. Excellent detail and dimension. I took some lovely images of an Orange Tree yesterday. I hesitate to say it, but, as real as it was, it almost looked fake. Hence, I did not post. May change my mind.
Lisa, that is one of Nick's favorite books! We had to read it every.single.night around Christmastime when he was younger (I want to say from the ages of 3-5). Last year we read it a few times, and he and I just read it for the first time this season just last night! Such a coincidence... Nick loves the tree page "so piney!" Anyhow, great shot! and I hope to see the chicken soon.
@erikadee Nothing screams "good literature" like a label that says "scratch-n-sniff"! Can ou believe my brother had the same book when he was small? Mall of the "sniff" was gone so I went out to see if I could find a new version when Katy was young and was shocked they still publish it!
haha I have a little chicken and I keep trying to get a picture of it balancing on an egg. . .. . I can't tell you how many failed attepts I have. . If i ever get the shot I actually want I will have to post the blooper roll with it. . . this is a fun angle it really looks giant!!
Great angle and the story is perfect with the photo. I love tradition and I think this tradition you started many years ago is absolutely great! Thank you for the welcome back!
Fun shot- we always had oranges in the stocking when I was growing up (and I'm not 19 and believe or not have never seen the book). I can't remember where the tradition comes from- my Scottish, Welsh or Dutch roots- but apparently it came from somewhere!
I love this! It is fun seeing the skewed proportions! Every time I smell and orange, I think of Christmas! MY grandma told a story about how exciting it was every year when they would get a juicy orange on their plate. The train only brought oranges once per year. Ohhh,, the things we take for granted now! I love that you get your daughter one every year- what fun tradition.
