Drying flax by ljmanning

Drying flax

Today we made an impromptu visit to a pioneer village that shows life in Upper Canada in the 1820s. These bunches of flax have just been harvested and hung to dry. They will then be threshed, and combed multiple times to create the soft fibres that are woven into linen.
Very cool!

Lovely to see. So used to seeing a finished product without considering the process.

I love the colours and tones here; the green flax against the warm wood tones on one side and against the light from outside on the other and the lacy effect of the ends of the flax. I really like this one.
