I was in my old neighbourhood yesterday.
This is my parents old home - remodelled.
They lived here together very happily for for 55 years.
Dad passed away in 1997 & Mum in 2000.
This house was my home for the first 20 years of my life and I was married from here..
It was built on 44 perches of land & so lovely, with bush adjoining the back fence and many lovely trees in the back yard.
It was duly sold, the land was divided, a room taken off, windows taken out & other rooms added at the back.
With the division of the property, the house number changed fom Number 11 to Number 9 Wonderlost Outlook, Tarragindi.
It's come up quite nicely, although I think they should have kept the land intact and the house also.
The house that was built on the top side is far too close & is not built in the style of the other homes in the street..
Time change and life goes on - at least they didn't pull it down :D
Just thought I'd share this.
It's so neat to see your childhood home, even if it's changed since then. It really is a shame they sold off so much of the land. Thanks for sharing this with us!
Great shot and story to go with it. Every time I leave home, I drive past the house I spent the 1st 30 years of my life. Mostly I don't think about it, but every now and then I get a little homesick for it.
I remember when it was on the bigger piece of land, there were so many things us grandkids did. Go-karting down the footpath without a helmet or pads... or brakes! Grandpa's Sweetpea Vine, Grandma's famous Isabella Grape Jam... and that vine! And the huge swing Grandpa made that was right down the back near his green workshop.
What a lovely home...it reminds me of the home styles in Hawaii. I can imagine you have a wealth of happy memories there...and it sounds like Lynda does, too. I'm sure that looking back is bittersweet...
And Lois, thanks so much for your note about Dill...so touching! I forwarded it to the guys as I knew they'd appreciate it. I know you'll see Dill's latest mug shot...he's going to survive just fine and look handsome again soon :-)
Yeh there were mum and dad and five kids in a two bedroom house. The side verandah was turned into a bedroom for the three boys, bunks and a single and I shared with my sister. The toilet was down the back yard. We had chooks and banana trees. Memories.......
