Tree Fern - Cycad by loey5150

Tree Fern - Cycad

Earlier this year we had to move our very old tree fern to widen our side entry to our property.
I showed photos of this same plant, which we thought had died.
However, three days ago we saw a the tiniest set of shoots on the top of the old stump.
Have look at what three days growth looks like.
I will try to keep tabs on it & do follow up photos to show its progress. I can't believe how fast it's growing :O

They are cool looking. Do they bloom? It looks like they would open up into a really large plant.

@digitalrn These plants grow to about 3 metres across hen the fronds open out mature - quite a large plant.

That's going to be a beauty, and it certainly doesn't look like the move affected it adversely! These are very ancient specimens, aren't they? Another of those wonderful Australian novelties!

This looks like a plant from the age of the dinosaurs. I'll bet its species dates back to that period. Very cool.

OH WOW -- I looked at your previous pic link and it completely amazing that this is the same plant !!!! This is only 3 days worth of growth -- stunning -- I wonder if it is related to the beanstalk in the fairy tale "Jack and the Beanstalk". I agree with Allison in that it seems like a prehistoric type plant. It will be interesting to see future pics of this unusual fern.
