Looks soo cold. Does the Mississippi completely freeze in the winter?

@lynnz @louannwarren Thanks both! I don't remember the Mississippi ever freezing over, but I've only lived here 29 years! The dams hold back a lot of the ice. @lynnz @homeschoolmom I live near Burlington, IA (on the IL side); I've seen the Mississippi River frozen solid for as far as the eye can see many times. The locks have a little moving water around them but otherwise it's a solid surface from shore to shore. Don't know how much further south it freezes tho.

I've been to Burlington, Iowa, but it has been a while! That's only 150 miles or so (straight line) from STL. As cold as it is this week, we'll see a lot more freezing, I think!
