Scrivener Dam by ltodd

Scrivener Dam

An early morning shot of Scrivener Dam. The absence of wind with the sun rising through the heavy fog caused the unusual lighting. Moody enough shot, but suggestions for improvement welcomed - I don't seem able to capture the landscape I 'see' in my head well enough with the camera. :)
Looks great to me. What don't you like? All I can suggest is point the camera down a bit since the top half of the image is mainly white

@mikew - yep, now I see - too much 'nothing' at the top. I was probably overthinking the rule of thirds. Thanks. :)

Thanks @maribelrivera & PS for @mikew - I think they always feel a little 'flat'. It might be just me - because I can move a small object & more readily change the lighting / composition, but with landscape it is either 'take it' or not! ( or move an entire mountain !).... maybe I just have control issues. :)

I love foggy mornings and pics and definitely like this photo, it captures the the mood really well, I am probably the opposite to the comments above though, i probably would have got down more to water level maybe. Are you shooting in manual or auto? I think you just try different things and different settings and see what you can come up with :)

@tkeen I think this was semi-auto, although I did try some of both. This is taken from the bridge, with the cars zooming past (as well as the cold) making me shake. Maybe it is the very limitations of shooting I am strugling with, that actually make really good landscape even more 'valuable'.

it's lovely Lyn! I could see this with either less sky or from water level, but I like this too, you've captured the real essense of a foggy morning with some really nice reflections on the water =D

Hi Lyn, I've taken a lots of morning mist shots. The only thing I would say is to take some of the sky away. It would make the main feature, the trees and the mist and the water. Otherwise it looks great.
