Had some fun messin' up the kitchen again for the liquid theme. Made some discoveries with this shot - strawberries can't be re-photographed once they have been squished a few times; and when manually co-ordinating with a delayed timer, even the smallest amount of ambient noise can interfere with my concentraton; and try not to cook dinner and answer the phone at the same time as trying this!! :)
@mikew Thanks Michael - I am very sorry I have been tardy answering you query about lighting the apple shot as well. I did fiddle around a bit to minimise the shadows, but don't have any fancy equipment - The background is just an old white melamine shelf leaning against the window (angled very slightly forward so the light bounces off the shelf onto the water from behind), placed about 40 cm behind the bud vase. I used the 3 kitchen down lights (one aimed at the background & 2 aimed at the vase) and my speedight (with diffuser) bounced off the ceiling / & some I tried bouncing off the corner wall which was about 2 feet away . I probably should have taped a tissue over the flash head, but forgot this time. I also used a desk flouro lamp for this shot (but not the apple one) but I actually preferred the slower exposure time from the softer lighting. The focus could have been a little better here, so I might have another go some time. The biggest 'hints' I can share would be to fill the vase to the brim for each shot, and make sure to use a vase with an opening as close to the same size as the fruit as possible - this makes the water squeeze past the fruit the most slowly and make some interesting patterns. Watch for water splashes on both the lens and the background - they both need to be wiped after almost every shot. Let me know how you go if you give it a try. I haven't yet been able to capture a water droplet crown shot, - this seems to be so much easier for me!
Give it a go - but have plenty of towels and a mop! It is fun!
