A few weeks ago I reflected that I enjoyed the sense of connection that photography brings - that special link to places, peoples and 'magical' moments. When I look at this photo I am transported to the middle of a paddock at sunset where I was surrounded by a flock of hundreds of galahs and sulphur crest cockatoos.
The scale is difficult to show here, as this is less than 10% of the flock that were swirling around and enveloping me with such amazing sound and colour. Even though I am not in this photo, I feel I am part of it because I enjoyed the moment I took the photograph so absolutely, and it came about because I went hunting for a photo for 365. Thanks Ross and everyone involved in 365!! :D
Wonderful capture and very topical as we've just witnessed these on the amazing BBC series Earthflight - you can catch it on I Player... http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b018xsc1
Just magical, I've big flocks of galahs but usually on the ground, never in flight en masse, this is sensational and I know just what you mean, you will remember that sight and experience for a long time. Have to fave this one!
@flyden great link - thanks - anything with David Tennant narrates gets points from me! :) @judithdeacon thankyou :D - yes !! it it hard to explain exactly why it was such a wonderful experience that I am still 'moved' by it a week later!
Fab capture and focus! It's so hard to imagine these exotic birds flying free!
And the sound file was cool! (Though it woke my little dogs who thought birds had invaded the house lol!)
Oh I love it! This is something I've been trying to do with the pigeons here in my city, but I have miles to go before I can get a great capture from them. Well done, Lyn! Your shots are just phenomenal!
Oh wow! Thank you so much for that experience! That was awesome!! (What was with the subliminal messages, though? LOL!) I miss galahs. Haven't seen any down here yet, but we have bazillions of plovers!
