“You have to love dancing to stick to it. It gives you nothing back, no manuscripts to store away, no paintings to show on walls and maybe hang in museums, no poems to be printed and sold, nothing but that single fleeting moment when you feel alive." Merce Cunningham
For me, dance is full of contrast and opposites: rehearsal and performance, stillness and motion; darkness and light.

My get-pushed buddy this week Janelle ( @turning_40 ) set my most difficult challenge so far by asking me to interpret 'dance' in photography! She did not know I started dancing at the age of 3, and completed my dance teaching qualifications at the age of 26, and then ran my own school for several years. Trying to represent such a big part of my life in just a few photographs has certainly been a different type of challenging!
Thanks go to Bec, a very patient and lovely work colleague 'foot modelling' in front of our reception desk at work!
Very dramatic and a wonderful shot Lyn. I had no idea dance was such a big part of your life!!! How incredible!!! You know I was going to ask you to do food but for some reason dance seemed to be appropriate as I was looking through your shots you certainly have an artistic edge to your photo's and thought Dance would be more you as it's artistic and dramatic which I noticed in a lot of your shots. You have certainly captured and interpreted this beautifully....FAV!!!
@turning_40 thanks Janelle - I am really glad you think this meets your brief! I certainly would have found 'food' far less personal and less confronting for my first attempt at interpretive photography! :) Thankyou for pushing me a little further along my 365 photographic journey!
I love this! I fav'd it! The photo is beautiful and the quote that you chose is absolutely perfect. I danced for years and I believe that dancing truly is all about passion and feeling alive.
@rachelmackenzie@mikegifford thankyou both - this shot feels very personal, and that makes your comments and fav even more special than usual! :)) @megstorey thank-you yes - all the pain, frustration and hundreds of hours of practice are more than compensated for by that 'out of body' feeling of performance. :))
Knowing that you live in "our nation's capital" that was designed by Walter Burley Griffin my challenge is for you to take a photo or photos that characterise his design of the city. This could range from the street lamps. bungalows and trees around Telopea Park, to the roundabouts and modernism of grand designs and visions. Over to you...
@peterdegraaff LOL it sounds like you know more about this city than I do! I still struggle with landscapes, and there is very little urban landscape photography in my album, so this is going to be new (& uncomfortable !! ) territory....
A dancer and a photographer...wow!
@megstorey thank-you yes - all the pain, frustration and hundreds of hours of practice are more than compensated for by that 'out of body' feeling of performance. :))
