hello yellow brick road (WWYD68 edit)

The cover of the 1973 Elton John album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, was illustrated by English children's illustrator and author Ian Beck, and at first glance it may look a simple cartoon.

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum was first published in 1900, and the are fascinating political interpretations attached to the story (and the imagery such as the yellow brick road)! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_interpretations_of_The_Wonderful_Wizard_of_Oz

There is an unsuspected depth in both the childrens story, and the album cover. http://www.amphigory.com/oz.htm

Here is my 365 homage to the album cover of one of my favorite albums! See http://www.eltonjohn.com for complete discography.
