My get pushed challenge this week from Rachel Hope (@hopess13) was "to create a rainbow". ...mmmm, not 'find', 'capture, or even 'photograph', but I had to 'create' one!!
For this shot I had to
- make an image with a customised rainbow fill
- attach my laptop to the TV
- place 6 large books covered in black cloth in front of the TV
- carefully place a sheet of glass on top of the books & as close to the LCD screen as possible
- carefully balance a glass of water on glass sheet
- turn off the lights & shoot with the camera on a tripod.
There was plenty of trial & error adjusting heights, angles and settings, and I am not sure I nailed the exposure, but the refraction effects were really fascinating to watch -- the patterns changed every time I moved even just a little.
@ozziehoffy thanks Cassandra :)) I have used the TV (using a DVD of a white snow scene set on pause) to back light drops of food colouring in water & that was quite successful, but now I am thinking of lots of new possibilities - there are endless ways any image could be used as a digital background --- ha-ha, it would be CGI on the cheap, just like the local weather presenter's TV set!! LOL
Ok, I went through your album and you've done almost everything there is in the trick-photography-book ;-) Amazing! And you are so creative with it, it's so much fun to look though and encourages me to try it a bit more.
Well, here's your challenge: Use a water-drop as a magnifier-glass. I'm sure you've seen examples. Have fun, and I'm always willing to give advice if needed :-)
@geertje ooohh - that is a push indeed! (and one still on my bucket list!!) I have tried this a few times since starting 365 & failed dismally, but now the gauntlet is down!! Thanks Geertje, I will check in with you if I can't get the hang of it this time. :))
@carolinejensen @espyetta @michelleyoung @ruthmouch @northy thanks ladies - the result of my "oh no it's the last day of the get-pushed challenge and I've got nothin' " desperation :))

And your shot is lovely. Congrats on Get Pushed :)
