My first attempt at setting up studio lights today & it was a little more frustrating than I expected! I think we got the hang of it after an hour though, and the CEO seems to be happy with the resulting Annual Report shoot (phew...such pressure!!). I also used tethered shooting for the first time, & I was surprised I only tripped over the cable once!!
@exposure4u Hi & thanks Wendy :) This is my fav lens - the canon EF macro 100 mm. I am not sure many people use this lens for portraits, but I really like the short DOF I get with it. The trade off is having to use spaces to shoot that are large enough to step back a little from the subject.
@jenrobcarr thanks Jennifer - this was a steep learning curve! This image is test shot 153, but by the time we got to shot 200, I was much happier with the lighting set up. What the graphic designer has done with my shots in the report is just incredible! It is a bit "I can't believe I took that shot" when I see some of them! :)
@ltodd I wondered if it was the macro 100! I have seriously been considering buying this lens due to the versatility with macro, as well as portraits! It sure has some great sharpness here and is winning me over!
@exposure4u that lens is absolutely worth the investment - it is on my camera 90% of the time. I hardly use the kit L series zoom at all - the 100 prime beats it hands down every time (and it was half the price!). I really stuggle with nifty 50 lens portraits, but do use the 50 for street photography. Macro work from the canon, is better than using my friends 100 Tamron on the same body. One day the L series macro might be on my wish list, but for now I love the EF.
