@Northy recently posted a fence shot from the Northern Hemisphere with snow & very bleak weather, so I went out to take a contrasting Southern Hemisphere shot.
This is quite a different type of shot for me - not 100% sure about it, but I will give it some time & see if it grows on me. Perhaps one should never try to channel Ms Northy!!
I was dissapointed that the highlights are blown out, but I really wanted that angle, with it's air of mystery, and I could not wait 20 minutes for the sun to go behind a cloud as I had to leave before the shops closed, otherwise there would have been no food for dinner ( gasp) ...and plenty of screams from the 'starving masses'!
better against black if you have time. :-D
@Northy not the image I had imagined I would shoot - trying to 'pseudo-repicate' your shot from an Aussie summer perspective was a lot harder than I expected.
@maggiemae thankyou Maggiemae! I was not trying to adopt a "Northy" style at all, but I sometimes find that trying to "see" what another person might see in a scene makes me stop & really think as I compose, instead of being on autopilot.
This is beautiful Lyn! I was just reading in the black and white book today about the use of highlights in a monochromatic picture. Thanks to the fence and the vantage point you wanted to photograph it from, you've placed the bright spot in one of the prime locations spoken of in the chapter! No gentle melancholy here- just a joyous closing of the day. fav
