I have finally taken the plunge and moved from Windows OS to a new MAC book. Woah - even though I love it, I am not sure where any of my photo files are going yet, or what I am doing, as I have had to "start from the very beginning" with all new photo programs, no presets or plugins!
I was asked to shoot a dance rehearsal this week, & was presented with harsh industrial lighting and a challenging dance studio background. I ended up using just directional natural light to complement the beautiful costume.
Remarkable light from the side for this portrait! Glad you have a Macbook - I wouldn't be able to do without mine! I'd quite like to see this in monochrome too!
@maggiemae@pandorasecho Tahnks ladies - I am very happy so far - it just seems to be taking a very long time to redownload the plugins in MAC versions - and I have changed computers so many times in the last 2 years I am having trouble finding some of my plugin liscense keys! doh --- I know it will be worth it in the end but I am out of my comfort zone and I dont like it ;-D
Beautiful work! Switching computers is something that requires stupid amounts of time and patience... I think my new laptop sat in its box for over three weeks before I had the time and energy to get it sorted...
@northy - I had taken so long to take the plunge I was worried my old laptop would cook ( the fan runs constantly now)! I Know what you mean though - my "big" camera sat untouched in the wrapping for 10 days when I bought it ( I think I was scared of it!)
Fabulous portrait! I really love the girl's mysterious look and gaze. You have done great job with the light and backdrop, I could never tell the difficulties you described...
Love this portrait. My new Mac Book Pro is still in its Xmas wrappings. I've had the same computer running Microsoft for 10 years. I think I'm in for challenging times ahead!
Stunning portrait Lyn... The vibrant colors and this beautiful girl do pop beautifully on black. Good luck with the Mac, I've heard it's the best for photo / graphics!
@kerosene thanks Caroline. Interestingly the retina screen makes culling photos much easier - I can delete the 'duds' more quickly ;-D
@pickerandagrinner yes it has been a great step forward compared with the old laptop I struggled with for so long.
@julieco now I can tell where the files 'are' I am happier! I am finding Photoshop CC far more challenging than the Mac. The Mac processing speed and graphics are stunning & it is definitely worth the challenging changeover!
You've done beautifully under those conditions, this is a stunning portrait.
I love everything about my Mac and have been invested there for over a decade now, but when we switched the photo programs over I thought for a bit I might throw it against a wall for frustration. I was in my routine of knowledge and the system was easy and streamlined, going into something new, even though now, it's much better, was like having my hands tied behind my back and a patch over one eye!
@kandkids yes Karen - I still have not managed to locate the paint bucket in PS!! It is such a change after 10 years with PaintShopPro & Windows, but while some things are harder, many are easier already, so I know in the long run it is worth it. ( the Wacom is yet to be attached - I only need one steep learning curve at a time!!).
Good luck with the switch over of computers, always time consuming!
