Pyrrhura Pi by ltodd

Pyrrhura Pi

@pandorasecho mentioned the artist John James Audubon to me, and I thought I would see if I could merge a photo into his painting style.
This image uses part of an open access plate of the Louisiana Water Thrush ( see https://www.audubon.org/birds-of-america/louisiana-water-thrush ) and a recent shot of our baby conure born in October 2015 ( http://365project.org/ltodd/365/2015-10-22)

I had wanted to try something like this for a while - it has a learning experience with colour matching and clip masks new to me.

This is a very different editing style to the previous one. I guess if you had very traditional decor, you might use something like this for four favorite pet, but it was quite hard to 'channel' such a formal style. My daughter is pretty happy with this edit of her little buddy 'Pi' and I am happy to have given it a go.
@pandorasecho I had heaps of fun looking at a lot of the bird shots you suggested Dixie. Thanks so much! :)

This is simply BRILLIANT Lyn! What a gorgeous image, and I'd swear it was a photo of an Audubon plate, but knowing you, I know better! Fabulous!

@Weezilou the branch is Audubon's! ;)

@ltodd Oh I completely get it! I realized that, and it's still super wonderful!

@ltodd this is wonderful. One thing I love is birds and I've always had parrots as pets, but I'm glad your conure is in this picture and still alive, one thing I hated was learning that Audubon painted from dead birds, back when there were no cameras to record the detail for an artist to study.

@pandorasecho oh yes, Pi is very much alive & noisy but does not pose for photos very well!

Beautifully merged. It really does look like a painting Lyn.

Your processing skills never fail to impress. This really could be a straight Audabon plate - I'm not surprised your daughter likes it! FAV

I would say you totally nailed his style! It's not a style that I particularly like, I much prefer what you have been doing but nevertheless, this looks like perfection to me!
