Wow, fabulous framing! What a fine elephant!
May 8th, 2011
Great shot, I love the amount of contrast.. Kind of hard with that lighting and the colorscale of the subject :)
May 8th, 2011
What a great shot! The detail is amazing! Who knew they had eyelashes that long! Looking forward to the other 499!

May 8th, 2011
Don't I know it...I was not able to get an elephant shot. This is superb. I am anticipating an amazing zoo series.....I soooo wish I was with you.

May 8th, 2011
This is great. I love the composition. I'm still trying to learn how to compose photos so they look nice but it looks like you've mastered composition.
May 8th, 2011

May 8th, 2011
Great shot, the framing gives an impression of scale. BIG!
May 8th, 2011

I love your photos...what zoo do you visit?
May 8th, 2011
Just look at all those wrinkles. Great shot.
May 8th, 2011
Margaret this is a very good photo. I love the perspective, how you caught the elephant's eye as the subject and the blue wall as a contrast. Well done!
May 8th, 2011
love the texture & detail. I remember as a child at the SF zoo, a man was walking around with a baby elephant. I went over to see it & my Dad called me back. I waited until my dad wasn't looking & ran over to pet it. I was shocked. It's skin was like sandpaper & it's hair like wire. By the time I got home, I had broken on in a rash. Measles they say but I still have my doubts.
May 8th, 2011
HA! I went to the zoo today, too, so hear ya on the 500 pictures (although I don't believe I took that many). Great capture of the elephant! I love your point of view. Makes him interesting!
May 8th, 2011
Great shot! I love Elephants. My 11 year old has a collection of Elephant figures, that was started his first Christmas. My kids have never been to a circus because of Elephants treatment there.
May 8th, 2011
Amazing textures!
May 8th, 2011
Beautiful capture Maggie - as usual! He is awesome. Love the details/texture. :)

May 8th, 2011
Amazing shot, all his wrinkles are visable! Very nice composition!
May 8th, 2011
Great shot, lucky you we don't have a zoo here.
May 8th, 2011
beautiful detail - lovely creature. Bizarrely my dad had one in India and rode it in the jungle so I always love to see an Asian elephant and think of him, Rtthi and the cocker spanial that apparently used to be lifted on by the elephant's trunk!! Love the framing.
May 8th, 2011
Nicely done - a wonderful portrait!
May 8th, 2011
I really like the way you've cropped this! What a gorgeous image!!
May 8th, 2011

May 8th, 2011
@jenncampbell Jenny I visit the Rosamond Giffared Zoo in Syracuse, NY
May 8th, 2011
@molizard Their skin is like sandpaper. That must have frightened you as a child.
May 8th, 2011
@poophappens I support the zoo, wishing things were different. It's hard for me to see the animals contained. This is the only way some animals can survive now. I never go to the circus. I love elephants also. A very beautiful animal.
May 8th, 2011
@friendie Carole, I love the names kids come up with. My niece always called coyotes- iotas.
May 8th, 2011
@miranda Wow. Not many dads have an elephant. I dragged every animal home that I could catch, to the horror of my dad. He was not an animal lover. I would have loved to see the elephant and the dog.
May 8th, 2011
Taking a camera to the zoo sounds dangerous...so many photo opps! I love this photo...great animal!
May 8th, 2011
I love the composition of this - very cool shot!
May 8th, 2011
Bep
Love this picture!!!
May 8th, 2011
Some zoos have vast expanses for animals to roam almost like they would have roamed at home in their natural habitat. It is so much better than a leg shackle and a life behind bars.
May 8th, 2011
as ever , your patience and great eye have paid off.
May 8th, 2011
He's great, love the texture.
May 8th, 2011
lovely & as above it was the texture that i like
May 8th, 2011

@maggie2
Sadly we are losing our elephants at the Toronto Zoo...Bob Barker has been pushing for them to go to a warmer climate with more elephants! I guess that is good for them...but sad for us. Beautiful creatures. Great shot.
May 8th, 2011

May 9th, 2011
@jonna She might not want to borrow it, but I do. :-)
May 9th, 2011
@jenncampbell Jenny, they have just made a very large enclosure for the elephants at this zoo. I'm so thrilled to see it. Theirs was pretty small.
I'm sorry you're losing your elephants. I would think they would have acclimated to the weather.
May 9th, 2011
beautiful! I love the composition!
May 10th, 2011
