Thats the word to use for the 'after match' function. We buried the ashes of my older sister and her beloved husband this morning in drizzly rain. We huddled under a sun umbrella and read poems and speeches while playing Kay's favourite song, 'the last rose of summer". Rain dripped all over my computer which was doing the playing of this song. It wasn't a sad occasion, just a final and a goodbye event. My two sisters, Mary and Joan are sitting opposite each other 2nd down from the top.
Three good things:
1. The blue cod at this restaurant is superb!
2. There was a sea lion sleeping on the breakwater beside this building. Every now and then it would raise its head, scratch with a flipper then flop down again.
3. Point: What do you call a female sea lion? I sea lioness?
Straight from Google: "The mother is called a cow, the father is called a bull, and the baby is called a pup"....even though, I don't think I would call them that! Wonderful tribute to your sister....I think I would like that restaurant!
@panthora We had considered going to ask the sea lion which gender he /she was but with those names - who wants to front up to a 'bull' or a cow for that matter!
So sorry for your loss and such an emotional day for you, but the "celebrations of life" are so much more informal and uplifting that what they used to call "funerals" It's always nice, too, to get together afterwards to just relax and enjoy the company.
It is so nice being able to rekindle memories with photos, I worry with the new tech that we may lose that! Wonderful tribute and they are smiling down at you!! great pic too!!
Oh Maggie, this made my eyes water because, unfortunately for me, I am an emotional person so this hit me a little hard even though I didn't know your sister or brother-in-law. I put myself in everyone's shoes, that's why, I guess. And I could've spotted your sisters in the group right off the bat! Anyway, I wish you could've been in the photo. Awesome photo, my faraway friend. Hugging you from Lafayette, Louisiana! :-)
@thendrix58 The first funeral there were 100's of people there for this 5 year old but next day for the second burial of my sister's ashes there were only 10 of us - more easy to hug! My sister was 93 and not in good health - she wanted to go.
@maggiemae I hope this doesn't sound morbid but if I were 93, I'd be ready to "throw in the towel" too and head on Upwards. Not sure if I'd want to live that long but if I do, I'd only want the few people who had stuck with me thick and thin, loved me faults and all, and knew me inside and out. That is my hope! Until that time, I make sure that I'm grateful for every single moment, like this one! A great moment for me chatting with someone I met 2 yrs ago who encouraged and pushed me when I first started 365. I will never ever forget your input. You're one of the reasons why my photos improved as the year went on. Not sure if I ever told you that and if I didn't, I should've! Saying it now. Better late than never! I will try to check in more often and see what you and my other 365-ers have been up to. I love you guys! :-)
@thendrix58 Well, I'm chuffed if you think that Terry! I don't remember 'helping' you - I try not to make 'helpful' comments as they can be interpreted as criticism. There are some really super people on 365 and it so nice to converse through photos with intelligent people who have an arty side! You were always so wonderfully impulsive and able to share your high spirits with all. I made sure I found your photos every day as some do with mine!
This is a lovely family shot Maggiemae. When we lost my mother in law it was no surprise as she had been saying for weeks she was ready. Take care my friend. Big hugs coming your way.
Love the reaction to this shot maggiemae.....must be good to get so much feed back....we are a very compassionate lot in this site I feel!
A sad but reflective time for you all but perversely a funeral can be enjoyed by all as a time of meeting up, memories & renewing of friendships. I truly hope mine will, a long time hence, be just that!!
I can see the likeness between you three sisters even from here.....you are sitting at the bottom left I guess from the empty place....so good that you are the photographer & music technician! It looks a very nice on the sea shore restaurant...I can see the sea through the window!
@happypat You are so right, Pat - real friends out there all round the world brought together by a common bond. I expect they all have the same problems, joys and fun that each one of us does. Our little group here got on so well together, we are planning another meeting somewhere.
Sounds like a very personal send off it is always so sad when we loose someone, but the after service event is usually time for happy memories rather than so many tears...........good image
Thanks Mary!
