On the wing by maggiemae

On the wing

Wind battered this coast making any effort to capture a photograph rather noisy and one had to stand very securely!
This is my really first of a bird actually flying (BAF! - it's really BIF) This bird was staying in one place against the fury of the wind but would dive for a fish only a few times! it was good to focus on it.

Three good things:
1. A great brunch at a small cafe down the highway - I had pea, pie, pud and found great difficulty in typing ‘pud” with auto correct being stubborn!
2. Bent our rule never to buy water - thought about a river, a toilet, a petrol station but also thought about 3. health!
Sadie (our Merc and GPS) took us safely through the difficulties of Christchurch roads still under renovation!
what a great seascape, love all those blues :)

Clever you. Lovely clear focus on the tern. The sea looks very choppy and uninviting.

The ocean looks rough...nice capture.

Choppy seas for sure! Is that easier feeding for this bird or harder?? Great shot!

@summerfield Bif not Baf, Vikki! I had to hold on to the car door for this one - wind so strong!

@happypat Home now and its 27degC, Pat, the wind is mild, the lawns have been done and you can just see the roses amongs the weeds!
November 20th, 2015
Considering the harsh wind that challenged you this is a most excellent shot, Maggiemae!
November 20th, 2015
Nice shot! Great focus on the bird.

@maggiemae Bliss! Have you time before you go again to get the cat out of kennels?
November 20th, 2015

Great colours.

A lovely colourful seascape.

Lovely capture and that sea really looks rough, hence the high winds. You did well so a FAV from me.
November 20th, 2015
I love the roughness and sense of motion you captured in the sea, and the bird trying to fly against the wind, fav. Reminds of a winter wind storm/blizzard we had here years ago when I couldn't cross the street because the wind was pushing too hard against me--same with a large, powerful man who was also trying to cross. Downtown, they rigged up ropes for people to hang onto. I've known high winds since then, but none quite like that.

Beautiful capture. I find BIFs very difficult to capture.

November 22nd, 2015
@tristansmum Cant believe there would be a wind that strong - must have been a hurricane?
November 22nd, 2015
love this shot, Maggie. There is a real sense of the wind and waves here.

Terns are great fishermen and fun to watch. I always wonder how they can see the fish so well. Eyes like an eagle I guess.

Beautifully :)
