The final day of the Burt Munro Challenge was a Street Race with lots of people attending but we were ushered into a near parking place to the action. The roar of the 1000cc bikes right by your ear was absolutely deafening! I gave up standing around and slipped into the back seat of Sadie and looked at my photos. As the window glass is dark in the back seat, the odd person who decided to investigate this Mercedes close up didn’t see me! But I saw them! Tempted to open the window and shriek!
Three Good Things:
1. The guy who won this trophy , in fact so many of them who participated in these events looked as if they had escaped from a rest home - looked old and tired but he had won several events! The Munro Family Trophy is awarded to the person who most represented Burt’s achievements. Perseverance in spite of difficulties, repairing the bike himself, having limited financial resources etc.
2. I’m so tired as is the grandson - two nights of going to bed at 3am is tough - he was at his sister’s place and walked back to the hotel at that time!
3. National Radio is broadcasting an interview with John Monday morning - says - 350000 listeners! He conducted this interview in the car and I had to get out to cough so didn’t hear what he had to say!
You make me laugh so much maggiemae, you have a way with words! All the old motor cycle boys would love your description of them I'm sure! How fascinating to watch people when they can't see you!! This chappy looks pretty pleased with his winnings!
I am convinced motorcyclists would happily die in the saddle if they could! They love their bikes and as you've discovered long ago they are passionate about their sport. Great shot. Enjoy your rest when you get it
